Srinagar, August 31: Hardline Separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s elder son yesterday appeared before the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Naeem Geelani was summoned in relation to the flow of funds into various accounts from overseas
There was, however, no questioning done as the NIA team meant to interact with him had already left the Valley.
A team of the NIA was in Kashmir for the past one week and had reportedly been investiaging into the alleged flow of funds into some bank accounts to “fuel the ongoing unrest”.
“I attended the office in Shivpora along with my legal adviser, but the people concerned had already left for Delhi,” Naeem said as per reports in media.
“The incharge at the office informed the officers on phone that I had come to office,” he added.
After the call was issued to Naeem, the hardline Hurriyat Conference issued a statement terming it as an act of “terrifying and maligning” the leader’s family.
Atleast a dozen people, including those sympathetic to separatist groups have been questioned by the NIA in the past one week. There were widespread reports that some bank accounts in Kashmir had seen huge and unwarranted inflow and outflow of funds during the unrest.
