Jammu, July 21: Jammu and Kashmir has gone back to reeling under the dark ages, literally, without the availability of Internet services. The state administration has cut off the services keeping in view the delicate situation in the valley which can go haywire with rumours.
Jammu has had to bear the brunt as well owing to an ongoing Amarnath Yatra which has had a serious shortfall in numbers ever since violence in the valley erupted. The initial numbers were promising and this year could have seen a huge footfall in pilgrim numbers except they have fallen way below the corresponding numbers during the same period last year.
U4UVoice got in touch with officials at leading mobile operator companies in Jammu to inquire about the status of internet services in Jammu since this division has remained largely peaceful and the answer was in the negative.
“The re-institution of mobile data services will depend a lot on the All-Party meeting today, if at all the matter of resuming mobile data internet services in the Jammu region comes up. If there is a decision to recommence the services, then internet on mobile phones would be restored by evening today,” said a senior employee at Aircel who preferred to not be named.
The official, however, gave something of a shocker as well. She said, “If the services are not resumed today, there is an unofficial word to not resume services till 15 August which is also just before the Amarnath Yatra concludes.”
The same information was confirmed by employees at other ISPs in Jammu.
