Jammu 24 September 2016: In a significant development, Gandhi Global Family (GGF) – A United Nations recognised Peace NGO, urged Prime Minister to recommend United Nations for celebration of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar birth anniversary asInternational Day of Social Justice.
While speaking to students of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Convent School, Band Talab, Jammu, Padmashri S.P. Varma President of Gandhi Global Family J&K, lauded the role of Babasaheb Bimrao Ambedkar as freedom fighter, architect of Indian Constitution and social reformer, and said his unparallel contribution to uplift weak and downtrodden in India can be a model of hope for world society. As for as the social justice is concerned, the world needs to be transformed by introduction of Dr. Ambedkar’s model for underdeveloped and developing countries, even there is scope for its implementation in developed nations to combat inequality in any form. Thus he appealed to the Prime Minister in a adopted resolution by students and prominent citizens to recommend the United Nations for celebration of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar birth anniversary, 14th April, as International Day of Social Justice.
On this occasion an awareness programme as part of 12 days UN campaign form Peace to Non-Violence, and a quiz on UN 17 Sustainable development Goals (SDGs) also organized in collaboration with Gandhi Peace Foundation under the aegis of United nations Information Centre, New Delhi.
Earlier, Gian Chand Dogra, Chairman Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Group of Schools welcomed the guests and assured to create awareness amongst the students and teachers of all the 15 schools running in Jammu region under this trust regarding UN 17 SDGs. A UN-India connect pin was also presented to Mr. Dogra for his outstanding contribution for imparting quality education to the children especially of weaker sections.
A large number of students and staff members of school, members of NGOs and prominent citizens from civil society attended the programme. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Chaman Lal, Principal of School, Soba Ram, Director Youth Hostels Association of India, J&K and Vijay Magotra, advisor GGF Jammu, urban.
