Jammu : In the ongoing week-long Sidh Goria Mela held at Swankha in Samba district of Jammu, a case of sexual assault came up on Sunday.
The victim had come to attend the famous mela with her family. It was in the fair itself that she ran into her fiance, Sushil Kumar of Arnia. A little later, both of them left the hue and cry of the mela and decided to sit and talk, a little away from the noise.
At that instant, a group of five-six unidentified men arrived there and got into a fight with the victim’s fiance. They then beat up the fiance, kidnapped the girl and took her to an unknown place, where they abused her physically for more than four hours. The incident took place at a distance of about 500 mtr from the Sidh Goriya temple. The culprits fled the place later on.
She somehow reached her family and narrated to them the entire episode. The victim was then taken for the medical examination.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed with the Ramgarh Police Station by the victim and the police have started investigation. Charges under RPC sections 376, 323, 366 number 25 have been registered. SSP Samba Joginder Singh told a local daily that few of the suspects have been arrested by the police.
