Girl shot dead as families quarrel over double meaning songs at wedding

Chandigarh, May 1: The life of 13-year-old Sawahliya was snuffed out during a violent clash between two groups over a disc jockey’s (DJ) performance in Beeva village of Mewat district late Friday night.

The latest firing occurred during pre-wedding celebrations at the residence of one Deen Mohammad. Victim’s brother Aas Mohammad alleged in his complaint that Deen’s family had hired a DJ who was playing obscene songs.

He said when they objected to this, it led to heated arguments between his family and that of Deen and this led to a clash. He alleged that Shaukeen Khan, a resident of Rajasthan, took out his gun and opened fire.

A bullet hit Sawahliya on the forehead and she died on the spot.

The accused fled after the incident. Inspector Shish Ram of Nuh police station confirmed that a murder case had been registered.
Mewat superintendent of poilce (SP) Deepak Gehlawat later said that Shaukeen had been arrested while police teams were on the lookout for other accused.

He added that, one person has been arrested and investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, samples have been sent for forensic examination to ascertain the weapon used in the firing.
