Srinagar, September 23: Hurriyat Hardline leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been prevented from traveling to the United States. As per reports, Separatist leader was travelling to attend an event where he was likely to speak against India.
It is pertinent to mention here that the 85 year old Pro-Pakistan leader had been issued a short term passport for the duration of nine month in July this year to facilitate his visit to Jeddah to meet his ailing daughter Fareeda.
The government of India suspended the passport of Geelani before the completion of Nine Months in view of the reports that he was flying to New York to take part in the annual meeting of Foreign Minister of member states of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Kashmir Contact Group. The annual meet was to begin on September 27.
Earlier in May, Geelani’s passport application was rejected by Government of India because he denied to give his biometric details. After the authorities rejected the application in view of incomplete necessary formalities, Geelani gave up and visited Regional Passport Office to give his biometric details.
Few days ago, Geelani’s spokesperson acknowledged his travel plans to the US and said that the leader was invited to speak on the occasion by OIC a number of times but could not go due to unavailability of travel documents.
