JAMMU: Governor, Mr. N.N. Vohra, directed Controller, Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO), to take immediate action against the manufacturers of spurious and sub-standard drugs in the State. The Governor also issued instructions that the Director should furnish a report on the specific action taken by DFCO in the past one year to check the manufacture and sale of sub-standard/ spurious drugs in the market.
Earlier, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) had found that a large number of drug samples lifted from various hospitals in J&K were not of standard quality and out of 156 drug samples taken 27 were declared “not of standard quality”. The DFCO has so far seized sub-standard drugs worth about Rs.21 lakh and the licenses of 5 local manufacturing units have been suspended.
