Finance Minister announces Rs 25 lakh from CDF for upgradation of school infrastructure; ESI Model Hospital to be setup at Lassipora
SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 02: Minister for Finance, Labour, Employment and Culture, Dr Haseeb Drabu today announced that Government Boys High School Tahab in district Pulwama would be upgraded as a Model School.
Interacting with a deputation of the prominent citizens from the area, Dr Drabu announced that he would provide Rs 25 lakh from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for the upgradation of infrastructure at the school including setting up of Smart Classrooms. He said the proposal for upgradation of Government High School Tahab as a Higher Secondary School is also under the active consideration of the Government and he would personally pursue the matter with the Education Minister, Mr Naeem Akhtar.
The deputation informed the Minister that established as a Middle School in 1950, Government Boys School Tahab is one of the oldest schools in district Pulwama which has produced some of the acclaimed personalities in different fields. They said that the school was upgraded as a High School in 1967 and since then no upgradation has taken place although it has a good double-storey building with 16 rooms including a laboratory and a library. The school premises is spread over 10 kanals of land which can be developed as a good play-field. They said unfortunately over the years, the school was not given the attention it deserved.
Responding to the other issues raised by the deputation, the Minister said that the Government has already announced a Treasury for Tahab which would be established there soon. He said the Government is also planning to utilize around 1000 kanals of state land at Chandgam karewa to establish an institution of repute there. He said to augment the power supply position in the area, a Receiving Station is also being setup at Chandgam. He said the work on upgradation of road from Pulwama to Lassipora via Tahab is also going on at full pace and it would be macadamized during the next working season.
Dr Drabu said a Model Hospital under ESI scheme is being established at Lassipora to improve the healthcare facilities in the area. He said a proposal is also under consideration of the Government to construct a shopping complex at Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) Lassipora where local unemployed youth can sell niche agriculture products including saffron, apple, almonds etc.
He said some more development projects are in the pipeline for the area which would rejuvenate the economic activity there.
