Gunfight rages in South Kashmir, two armymen injured

Shopian May 19: A fierce gunfight erupted between militants and government forces at heff Shirmal  in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, official sources told.

The joint team of forces were attacked the militants resulting injuries to two troopers, the forces retaliated the fire ensuing an encounter.

The gunfight started around 8 pm at Heff Shermal Village in Shopian when a search party of the Army and Special operations group (SOG) of the police came under heavy fire from the militants.

On a tip off, a join team of the 55 Rashtriya Rifles and the SOG cordoned off Heff Shermal Village around 8 pm. As the combing operation was on, the militants hiding in the area opened fire upon the search teams, triggering a gun fight.
