A militant had died in an ongoing encounter with security forces on Sunday, police said.

An official said that the gunfight started between forces and the militants in Ladhoo village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, said an official.

“Following specific information about the presence of some militants in Ladoo village of Pulwama district near Pampore town, security forces started an operation today.

“When a cordon was being laid around the place where militants were reportedly hiding, forces were fired upon. The forces retaliated and a gunfight has now started in the area,” a senior police officer said.

“More reinforcements have been rushed to augment the strength of the forces engaged in the operation,” the officer added.

Meanwhile heavy clashes started near the encounter site which resulted in to halt the operation.

6:00 pm A police official said that three militants are believed to have been trapped by the forces which have laid a cordon around Ladhoo village. One of the three militants have been neutralised.
