SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 16: Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura Wednesday emphasized enhancement of cocoon productivity and quality besides improving market facilities in the State.
This was stated by the Minister while reviewing Sericulture Development Department and Sericulture activities in the State in a meeting held here.
In order to achieve these objectives, the Minister stressed on Model Silk Village concept on lines of Cooperative movement and said that model bivoltine clusters should be established in the State in collaboration with Central Silk Board.
The Minister also asked the concern to organize Grand Kiramkash Melas and small awareness programmes throughout the State. He said special attention should be given to mulberry plantation both on State and Private land.
Mr. Hanjura said that concerted efforts are being made to promote silk industry in the State and special funds shall be arranged for silk- worm and raw silk production besides upgradation of infrastructure in the department.
The Minister directed officers of Sericulture Department to conduct district wise survey and assess the area under mulberry plantation, number of farmers involved in Sericulture activities and submit a report in this regard within a month.
While taking stock of construction work at Chawki Rearing Centre (CRC), the Minister directed the concerned executing agencyto ensure completion of the building being constructed under CD programme on time.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Secretary Agriculture, M A Bukhari emphasized need to have developmental plans for the industry formulated at Panchayat and block levels so that impact of schemes reaches grass root level. He also stressed on the need to have a comprehensive action plan to increase cocoon productivity and mulberry plantation in convergence with MGNREGA and other programmes.
Earlier, Director Sericulture, Malik Farooq briefed the meeting about the activities of the department which are being implemented to promote sericulture and silk industry in the State.
The meeting was attended by Additional Director Sericulture Jammu, Director Planning Agriculture department, Director Finance Agriculture Department and all district officers of both the Divisions.
