Jind: After BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s acknowledgement of his marriage, a panchayat in Jind district of Haryana today appealed to Modi to reunite with his wife.
Bibipur panchayat has sent a mail to Modi to reunite with his wife Jashodaben, sarpanch Sunil Jaglan here said. The mail was sent on the appeal of panchayat members and villagers, including scores of women, Juglan said.
Around 100 women of Bibipur participated in the gram sabha after they came to know that Modi, 63, is a married man. In the nomination papers filed on Wednesday, Modi named Jashodaben his wife.
Women in Bibipur have been in the news for the past few years for their fight for gender rights. In 2012, they had organized the first women khap mahapanchayat to ensure participation of over 100 khaps in their campaign against female foeticide.
In the gram sabha on Friday, the participants said Modi should respect his wife when he talked about honour of the country’s women.
Sheela Devi, 63, a member of the group, said the Gujarat CM should give due respect to his wife and accept her matrimonial rights. “We have all sympathy for her. A woman should not be deserted on small issues when she tolerates all weaknesses of her spouse. I know the agony of such women as my daughter was thrown out of house by her in-laws 15 years ago following a minor matrimonial issue,” she said.
