HC issues directive to combat the traffic problem in Srinagar

In a bid to regulate the traffic on the roads of Srinagar, The High Court has issued following directives to various stake holders:

It has sought compliance report from various stake holders including SDA, SMC, Transport Department, Traffic Department and PWD as to what is being done to curb the traffic mess in the city.

Authorities responsible for the process of shifting of General Bus Stand Batmaloo to the identified site are directed to speed up the process and file status report in this behalf before the court.

ERA has been handed over the land for additional parking lots along with space for parking of private cars and two wheelers particularly in the commercial areas situated at M A Road for construction of Semi-Automatic parking which will cater to parking of 288 vehicles.

Another 12 kanals of land adjacent to the KMDA land has been taken over from Government Press and will be developed for parking of the vehicles. “The work for construction of parking lots shall be expedited. Status report in this behalf be filed before the next date”, directed the Division Bench of Justice MH Attar and Justice JR Kotwal.

The 7 kilometers stretch of road  from Parimpora to Shalteng will be completed in all respects by ending May this year and vehicular traffic will ply on it thereafter

The traffic police should implement its various suggestions submitted before the court for regulation of traffic and management of traffic congestion.

Court also directed the authorities of the Traffic Department to forcefully implement the court orders and has sought fresh compliance report from IGP traffic before the next date.
