Heavy rains lashed Jammu today thus bringing to end the strong heat wave which had hit the city for the last one week making life difficult for the residents whose life was made more difficult by the incessant power cuts, and breakdowns caused by distribution failure. On Monday afternoon the rain gods finally showered mercy on the city of temples and sky turned overcast with monsoon clouds pouring for more than hour.
The hour long downpour brought the temperature down from 38 degrees to 26 degrees giving much needed relief to the city residents who have been facing scorching heat for the past few days. Several areas in Jammu witnessed water-logging, and nullahs and drains overflowed with storm water as it also exposed the faulty preparation made by the civic agencies.
At many places the garbage also flowed with water which is likely to create trouble once the rain water flows away. Residents fear that muck and stench would be spread in many low areas because of the failure of the authorities to clean the city of the solid waste.
Farmers are however hoping that this rain will prove good for the produce as untimely rains in beginning of the summer season had wrought havoc on the agricultural operations. Meanwhile, Jammuites said that the rain had indeed been a timely blessing as it had saved them from oppressing heat prevailing for the past few days.
