Heavy rains and snowfall after 48 hours

Jammu: The weather forecast department of Srinagar have predicted that weather will change in the state from March 11. As per the report, heavy rains are expected in the plain terrains while snowfall is predicted for hilly areas.

The weather is expected to stay unappreciable until March 14 and the Jammu & Kashmir National Hig is likely to stay closed for this period. Moreover, the rain will definitely bring some relief for the farmers who were worried about their crops. And the snow- clad mountains can be a reason to attract more tourists to the valley. From past few days, the mercury dipped to 1.5 °C near the base camp of Amarnath shrine.

The weather as forecasted will be clear for next 48 hours and as of now the temperature at most of the places in Jammu is approximately 5-7°C above the standard temperature. The optimum temperature is about 30°C since past few days.

The mercury is observed to rise in Mata Vaishno Devi where the present temperature is approximately 25.9°C.


In the summer capital of the state, Kashmir, the temperature is about 20°C which is 6°C above the normal temperature.

At Pahalgam, the temperature is about 18.1°C and it is about 6.2°C at the famous skiing spot of the valley, Gulmarg.

The temperatures at Leh and Kargil are about 12.4°C and 11.1°C respectively. A consistent increase in the temperature is observed during night time.
