Jammu, June 16: Poonam Choudhary of Government Degree College (GDC), Hiranagar, bagged the top honours in the faculty of science by securing 84.54 per cent marks as the University of Jammu (JU) declared the results of BA/BSc/BCom/BBA/BCA (Part III) three-year degree (general) course annual examination-2016.
Girl students bagged most of the top 50 positions again outshining boys only eight of whom managed to enter the top 50.
Science: Poonam Choudhary of Government Degree College, Hiranagar — 84.54 per cent
Commerce: Shifali Sharma of Government College for Women, Parade — 74.16 per cent
Arts: Aabid Latif of Government MAM College, Jammu — 77.3 per cent
BCA: Parveen Kumar of GGM Science College, Jammu —77.87 per cent
BBA: Swarnima Zutshi of Government MAM College, Jammu — 76.66 per cent
17,927 candidates appeared in total, out of which 12,500 were declared qualified, while 790 students failed. The overall pass percentage stood at 69 per cent.
Only one position in top 10 was secured by a boy in Sciences, while in the commerce stream, all 10 positions were secured by female aspirants.
In the arts faculty, male students clinched three positions, while in BCA and BBA, two positions each were secured by male candidates.
Meanwhile, the second position in the faculty of science was bagged by Charul of GCW Parade with 84.42 percent marks while the third position went to Ankita Sharma of same college with 84.36 percent marks.
Tanu Dev and Kuldeep Singh of GDC, Kathua, claimed the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. The other position holders in the faculty of science were Damini Sharma, Meenakshi Dhar, Mamta Rani, Harshdeep Kour, Pushpa Devi and Manvi Rajput.
In the faculty of commerce, the second and third positions were secured by Alisha Dogra of GCW Parade and Jatinder Kour of GCW Gandhi Nagar with 73.66 and 72.88 per cent marks, respectively. The other position holders are Alisha Mahajan, Chandeep Kour, Ankita Gupta, Anukriti Sharma, Palak Bindra, Sonali Gupta and Ritika Virdi.
Lokesh Shan of GDC (Boys), Udhampur, clinched the second position in the faculty of arts by securing 75.87 per cent marks, whereas the third position was bagged by Geetanjali of GCW, Gandhi Nagar, with 75.81 per cent marks.
Other position holders are Akshita Mahajan, Ananya Sharma, Sofia Aslam, Maheshwari Sharma, Vani Choudhary, Mohammad Ghafoor, Janu Verma and Himmat Sharma.
The second and third positions in BCA were clinched by Ria Kohli of GCW, Parade, and Payal Sawhney of GGM Science College with 77.3 per cent and 75.87 per cent marks, respectively.
In BBA, Rishabh Gupta and Mehakpreet Manocha of the SPMR College of Commerce secured the second and third positions with 75.76 per cent and 75.38 per cent marks, respectively.
