High Security in place for Modi’s Visit
Jammu and Kashmir, the twin capitals of Jammu and Kashmir, with other major towns of the restive border state, once again don makeshift checkpoints, drop-gates and other security barriers and are witnessing random searches by men in khaki for the past couple of days.
Also, gun-wielding policemen and CRPF jawans can be seen on high alert at various vantage points and at and around important installations and public places. All vehicles entering the state from the south are being thoroughly searched by the police and CRPF jawans.
The extraordinary security bandobast as it may be called is not in place due to any terror threat but in the run-up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden visit to the state after assuming office.
Director-general of police K. Rajendra Kumar reviewed the security measures being put up for the visit at a high-level meeting held here on Monday. Immediately after the meeting, the security was beefed up further, official sources said.
