Hugs, prayers, selfies mark Eid celebrations in Jammu
Jammu: Exchange of hugs and special prayers today marked the celebration of Eid-ul-Azha here.
Eid-ul-Zuha, one of the holiest Muslim festivals, was celebrated with vigour and zeal today. People celebrated Eid-ul-Zuha with simplicity and solemnity in Jammu.
“The price of the sacrificial animals ranged between Rs 3,000 – Rs 25,000. While the Muslims from Jammu spent money and are buying expensive animals, the Kashmir Muslims are not spending much and are preferably buying less expensive goats,” remarked a cattle trader near Gujjar Nagar circle.
The Muslims of Jammu ,on the other hand, are dedicating this Eid to poor and needy people and special Eid prayers would be held for peace in Kashmir.
Markets in Jammu are bustling with people. The traditional animal bazars including Hatta of Ustad Mohalla,Talab Khatikan,Gujjar Nagar, Shaheedi Chowk,Bhatandi and Malik Market are full with sellers and buyers.
However, the mood is not the same and most people celebrating the festival expressed deep concern about the situation in the valley and said many in Jammu were not celebrating with the same excitement. “What is happening in Kashmir is awful. Today’s prayers also were dedicated to peace in the valley,” said Shabbir.
