Doda, March 7: The police have arrested a man and his wife for allegedly hatching a conspiracy and setting their house on fire. In which four of a family, including a toddler were burnt to death in remote Gadaan village of Doda district on February 29 night.
The accused have been identified as Mangta Bhat (46) and his wife Shamsada Begum (35), both residents of Gadaan village.
A few months ago, the wife of the deceased, Abdul Rashid, had smeared mud on the face of Mangta Bhat in the village panchayat over a dispute. Since then, Mangta Bhat and his wife wanted to take revenge of the insult from the family, said the Police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Headquarters, Doda, AQ Runyal said while addressing mediapersons said that “Around 11 pm on February 29 night, the accused barged into the house of Abdul Rashid Bhat and placed dry grass in the room where the family was sleeping and set it afire. Those sleeping in the room were Abdul Rashid, his wife Fata Begum (50), daughter-in-law Mubeena Begum (22) and seven-month-old granddaughter”
“Mangta Bhat, who is a cousin of the deceased, Abdul Rashid, has confessed to the crime, but has shown no remorse. He only wanted to take revenge,” the police officer said.The police have registered an FIR under Sections 302, 436, 427 and 429 at the Doda police station and the investigation is on.
