IAF launches rescue mission in J&K

Udhampur (J&K), Aug 12:  IAF today launched a Chetak helicopter from Air Force Station Udhampur in the afternoon after receiving an SOS call from the village of Bilawar.

The helicopter flown by Wing Commander V Takawale & Flight Lieutenant Pravinhead to fly low to reach the place due to heavy clouding In the area.

Two ladies were to be rescued from a small island in between the swelled up river. The pilots maneuvered the helicopter in the restricted airspace due to narrow valley and low clouds and landed on the island.

The ladies were picked up while the pilots were still on controls due to the rising water. The helicopter flew to a nearby safe spot and evacuated the ladies and returned to base.

Rains have been pouring incessantly in the northern state of india. Due to heavy rains in hills of kathua district since morning, all the tributaries swelled up with very little warning to the nearby residents.
