Due to untimely & incessant rains in Doda district, the remote villages of Dewalkund, Nagri and Gaidesa have experienced extensive landslides. The locals in the area came under severe distress due to the continuous rains causig landslides and land sinking.
The India Air Force (IAF)’s helicopters stationed at Jammu, were pressed into demanding operations of carrying aerial recce and air-dropping 20 Quintals of the relief material comprising of the ration, blankets, medicines and associated material for the people.
The Humanitarian, assistance and Disaster relief operation were continued, at places above 8500 feet above mean sea level in the inhospitable and unforgiving terrain. The operations were conducted despite the inclement weather. It was undertaken by the Commanding Officer Wing Commander MM Singh and Squadron Leader Nirmal Kumar under direct supervision of the Air Officer Commanding, Air Commodore Ashutosh Lal and Chief Operations Officer, Group Captain SP Singh. The IAF, in close co-ordination with the civil authorities, ensured the best possible support to the residents of the respective areas.
