SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police and Indian army Friday ‘averted a major incident’ when a patrolling party detected a Improvised Explosive Device on the Mughal Road in southern Shopian district, an official said. The IED weighing about 5 kilograms was detected in a Handy Gas Cylinder near Circuit house on the Mughal Road this morning, he said. The road connects Kashmir Valley with Rajouri district in Jammu region. The IED was planted by suspected militants, he said. “A patrol party of 44 Rashtriya Rifles detected a five-kg IED planted inside a handy gas cylinder near the Circuit House on Mughal Road. The IED was successfully defused by the bomb disposal squad,” another police officer said here. The traffic was stopped on both sides of the road and the device was defused in the nearby fields by a bomb disposal squad, the official said, adding that the explosive was planted apparently to target the government forces, who pass through the area.
