Illegal structures demolished in Jammu

Jammu:To ease traffic congestions and ensure free movement of pedestrians on footpaths of the city, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has started an anti-encroachment drive.

The drive was started from Shalimar road to City Chowk, Kanak Mandi up to Shahidi Chowk in order to ease traffic congestions on the instructions of Commissioner, JMC, Pankaj Magotra under close supervision of Joint Commissioner (A) Ashish Kumar Gupta and secretary Sunaina Sharma.

During the drive, the enforcement staff of the Jammu Municipal Corporation seized one truckload of material displayed by the shopkeepers in front of their shops and footpaths.Yellow lines to mark boundaries of shops in Purani Mandi, Kanak Mandi, Lakhdata Bazar, Peer Mitha, Link road, Old Hospital Road and Raj Tilak Road have been drawn to keep a check on recurring encroachments by shopkeepers on footpath and roads.A number of “pakka tharas” (cemented tharas) has been demolished in Lakhdata bazaar, Raj Tilak, Purani Mandi, Gandhi Nagar and Apsara Road.
