Incorporation of 73rd amendment in state Panchayat Act

MLCs-13JAMMU : The Members of Legislative Council (MLC) elected by the Panchayats of the State Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, Mr. G.N. Monga, Mr. Ali Mohammad Dar and Mr. Sham Lal Bhagat today expressed their satisfaction on the recent decision of the State to incorporate the 73rd amendment in the existing Panchayati Raj Act.
The Legislators hailed the decision of government to widen the ambit of the Panchayati Raj system in the State by incorporating the 73rd amendment in it, besides keeping the provision of electing the Chairman of the District Development Board from within the elected members of a particular district.
They also expressed satisfaction over the provision of providing the reservation to the women in the Panchayats maintaining that it would go a long way in ensuring empowerment of women and equitable participation of every section of society in the day to day governance.
The Legislators also hailed the government especially Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s decision to create new administrative units and maintained that these basic units of governance would go long way in speeding up the pace of development in all the areas of the State, especially rural and far-flung.
