India Biennial Election to Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Council to be held on April 17


Srinagar, March 15: Seats of six members of the Legislative Council of the State of Jammu & Kashmir, elected by the Members of the Legislative Assembly of the state, are due to fall vacant following the retirement of the officials by whom these posts have been held. The names of the officials who are set to retire are as follows:

The biennial elections on all these seats will be held on April 17. As per the notification issued by the Press Information Bureau, the issue of notification for the Biennial Election to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council by the Members of the Legislative Assembly will be out on March 22. The last date to file the nomination for the elections is March 29. The PIB circular further states that the scrutiny of the nominations will be held on March 30 and the last date of the withdrawal of candidature is April 3.

The notification further mentions that polling in the state will be held on April 17 and the counting of votes will also be held on the same day at 5:00 pm. The process of elections will be completed on April 18.

As per the latest information, three separate elections will be held, as per the above schedule –  one, for filling two seats from Jammu Province, second, for filling the seats reserved for Poonch District of Jammu Province, and third, for filling three seats from Kashmir Province
