For the first time, the Indian Army has deployed women and personnel close to the LoC to protect the area. This is the first time in the history of the Indian Army that women have been deployed at the level of jawans and that too in areas adjacent to the LoC in occupied Kashmir near Pakistan.
At an altitude of ten thousand feet at the very top of the Sadhana-Top of the LoC, half a dozen women men, led by a woman officer of the Indian Army, are deployed to guard the road going towards the LoC. These women soldiers are from Assam Rifles and have entered the Indian Army on deputation. Her first deployment in the Indian Army has been done on the Sadhana-top of Tangdhar sector, considered to be the most sensitive of Kashmir.
Captain Gursimran Kaur, who is leading the women’s team, is a third generation female military officer of her family.
