After reports of IPS officer Inam Ul Mengnoo’s brother joining terrorists in home state J&K emerged, the Assam-Meghalaya cadre police officer has claimed ignorance of the entire matter.

Mengnoo, a 2012 batch IPS officer, is currently the superintendent of police of Hamren police district of Assam.

When local reporters yesterday approached Mengnoo about the news of his brother allegedly taking up arms, he pleaded ignorance and refused to make any comment.

He said he learnt about the development from news reports and was not aware of any detail.

Mengnoo added that he was content with his work as Hamren SP for past one-and-half-year and was concentrating on discharging his duties efficiently.

As per media reports from J&K, Mengnoo’s younger brother Shamsul Haq Mengnoo (25 years), a resident of Sugan village in Shopian, went missing from May 26 last and was suspected to have joined a banned terrorist group in Kashmir.

Shamsul was pursuing Unani medicine degree at a government college in Zakura, in the outskirts of Srinagar.
