Jammu and Kashmir: 1.18 lakh applications received for the constable posts in state

As many as 1,18,000 youths have applied for 5,362 vacant posts of constables in Jammu and Kashmir. To keep the selection process transparent, the police outsourced the recruitment process to a private company. Deputy Inspector-General, Central Kashmir, Ghulam Hassan Bhat said,“We have received around 1,18,000 applications from across the state for the posts of 5,362 constables.”  “Similarly, 70,000 candidates have applied for the posts of 680 sub-inspectors. There are female candidates as well, but their number is much less,” The Local Daily quoted him as saying.

 The police have received the highest number of applications, as many as 5,121 from the volatile region Anantnag district of Kashmir. Besides Anantnag, the applications were also received from the other areas of South Kashmir, including Kulgam(2,902), Shopian(3,419) and Pulwama (1,704) respectively. The first phase recruitment process including the physical endurance test (PET) and physical standard test (PST) has already started in the Valley except for the most volatile regions of Kulgam, Pulwama, and Shopian. The recruitment process is expected to start in Kulgam on Sunday.
Talking about the recruitment process, Bhat said, that the process is still under way. Around 80 per cent of the candidates who had applied for these posts has appeared in PET and PST. Those who qualify the first phase will have to appear for a written test,” The Indian Express quoted him as saying. The posts also saw the involvement of women candidates. Around 31 women for Kashmir have applied for the post. The recruitment process has been forwarded to a Lucknow-based company.
