Jammu and Kashmir by-polls: NC forges alliance with Congress to fight PDP


The National Conference (NC) and Congress finally forged an alliance on Tuesday to contest in the Jammu and Kashmir by-elections alongside rival Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP)

The announcement was made a day after the NC and Congress held negotiations for the alliance. While the National Conference will contest Srinagar, Congress will contest Anantnag parliamentary seat.

On the other side, the PDP has chosen J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti’s brother Mufti Tasaduq Hussain to contest Anantnag and former Congress leader Nazir Khan from the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Both the parties will be focusing on proving themselves a viable alternative to the Mehbooba Mufti-government which has attracted a lot of public anger post the unrest related to the encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani. South Kashmir also witnessed a severe wave of pellet injurie
