The Jammu Dogra Sabha based in Chandigarh has issued an appeal for donations meant towards rescue, relief and rehabilitation in Jammu and Kashmir.
One of its most active members, Mr Vishal Bhardwaj, has said that due to incessant rains, hundreds of villages and lakhs of villagers have reportedly been inundated. Though some people have been rescued, thousands continue to be trapped. A rough and conservative estimate has put the death toll to 200 in Jammu region.
Hundreds of houses have been swept away leaving the people with no shelter and roof over their heads. The approach roads are blocked due to landslides and the Dogra Sabha Chandigarh feels that it is their sacred duty to help their brethren in this hour of grave need.
In order to provide relief materials, the sabha has sought donations, both in cash and kind, for the needy.
The sabha has requested for donations of blankets, tarpaulins, and rations (milk packets, biscuits). Besides, they have also requested for donations of warm clothes for men, women & children. Not only this, the Jammu Dogra Sabha Chandigarh volunteers have decided to personally visit the rain and flood hit Sunderbani, Nowshehra, Rajouri and Thanaamandi, for now.
