Jammu faces water-supply trouble as PHE workers go on strike
JAMMU: The 48- hour ‘Kam Chhor Hartal’ of the PHE employees affected the water supply to many parts of Jammu city and other areas. The PHE daily rated, CP and consolidated workers have launched strike for two days under the banner of PHE Workers Welfare Association (Jammu Province). The ongo- ing strike has been launched for the redressal of all demands of the daily rated, need base, consolidated and CP workers of the PHE Department. They are demanding their regularization and payment of their wages in time. The PHE workers are also demanding conduct of DPC at the earliest. Reports reaching here from different PHE Divisions and Sub Divisions of in Jammu, Samba, Rajouri, Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Kathua and other parts, the water supply has been affected with the workers’ strike. The people faced hardships in view of sus- pension of water supply. Subash Verma, trade union leader while addressing strik- ing employees at BC Road complex here alleged that Government was treating these workers as bonded labour. They are not paid their wages for months together. Many of them are going to be over aged and were not regularised. The workers are demanding fram- ing of definite policy for their regularization and providing wages in time so that they could feed their families prop- erly. He asked all the workers to assemble at PHE complex at 10 am tomorrow (September 2) where next course of action will be announced. The Association also regretted the inconvenience being caused to the public with the strike. Rattan Doshi, Chuni Lal, Surinder Kumar and others also spoke.
