Jammu Girl Soon to Make Her Bollywood Debut: Who She is
Actor Sonia Kour, after her last Punjabi movie Nikka Zaildar (2016), is keenly waiting for an opportune moment to enter Bollywood. She says, “It’s just a beginning for me.”
In Delhi recently, the Jammu-born girl said that it’s her hard work, dedication and passion that helped her get into the film industry. “I had no plans to act. While studying in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (in Delhi), I was looking for a part-time job. Since my height is 5’9”, I was advised by my friends and peers to try my hand at anchoring events. That suggestion gave me the idea to try my luck in films, and soon I signed a short film, Baari, which is yet to be released,” says Kour.
She didn’t want to leave the Capital and thus acting in Punjabi films came as an easier option to her. “Delhi is like another home, and I love this place. People told me to shift to Mumbai, but I prefer Delhi. It’s much more comfortable, suitable and lucky for me, considering I got my first film offer in Delhi. This city has shaped my career and gave wings to my dreams.”
The actor feels it’s just a beginning for her. “First, I want to establish myself in the Punjabi film industry and then move to Bollywood. I feel there are no shortcuts to success but I am sure I will be able to make it big one day,” she says.
At present, she is honing her skills by reading Punjabi books — as recommended by her directors — to get into the skin of the characters that she portrays on screen. “Though I am Sikh, my accent is different from Punjabis, in general, and I am trying to improve on it. I have been attending workshops and taking classes both in Delhi and Punjab.”
