Director Metrological Department Jammu and Kashmir, Sonam Lotus on Friday said that weather in the state will start improving from tomorrow (June 30).
Announcing that moderate to heavy rain is expected again from July 01 to July 02 due to western and eastern disturbances which have pre-poned moonsoon in J&K, Lotus said.
He added “We will continue to monitor the situation and let people know about the intensity of rain on July 01 and July 02 at the appropriate time.”
“It has been raining continuously since June 27 in most parts of Jammu & Kashmir regions.
As informed earlier, many places of South, East Kashmir and Hilly Areas of Jammu region received heavy rain as a result of which there is significant increase in water levels in Nallahs, Rivers etc. thereby increasing chances of potential flood, landslide on vulnerable areas,” Lotus said in a statement.
“We expect gradual decrease in rainfall from this evening and significant/overall improvement from tomorrow, 30th June,” he said.
“There can be landslide in sloppy area, flash flood, minor flood & water logging in low lying areas. People are requested to remain calm but vigilant, prepared and not to spread rumours of flood,” Lotus added.
He said that looking at the forecast, the threat of a major flood is highly unlikely but nevertheless, it is always good to be prepared.
