A landslide blocked Srinagar-Jammu highway on Tuesday morning, halting the movement of traffic.
An official said that a landslide blocked the strategic highway at Magarkot at 8.20 am, where a portion of hill has caved in.
He said traffic movement was suspended on the highway after a portion of a hill caved in and blocked the road.
The official said that the restoration work is in progress to clear the highway.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, has already put into service sophisticated machines and men to work to put through traffic.
It will take few hours to resume traffic on the highway, they said.
Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers, have been stopped at different places on both sides of the highway, they said. Similarly, large number of heavy vehicles, including those carrying essentials for Kashmir, have also been stopped.
