The 300 km long Jammu Srinagar highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the world, was closed today for vehicular traffic to carry out maintenance and widening of the road and repair of the damaged stretches. As per the IGP Traffic, J P Singh, the traffic was today suspended to carry out the repair work of the damages at Magarkote and Peerah in Ramban district. No movement from either side of the highway was allowed, he told.
He informed that men and machinery of Border Roads Organization (BRO) and other agencies have been deployed to carry out the much needed repair of the highway, he told.
In view of the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, the repair had become important.
