The Jammu Bandh supported by the various organisations demanding All India Medical Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for the region today, evoked a good response from the public. The bandh call was given by the coordination committee of various social and political organisations including Jammu Bar Association, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Transporters, retailers and various other organisations.
The public transport remained off from the roads due to which the commuters faced a lot of hardships especially the tourists coming to Jammu from the various parts of the country as they were stranded at the Bus Stand, Railway Station. The bazaars wore a deserted look as the shops in the main bazaars of the city remained closed throughout, supporting the bandh call given by the coordination committee. Schools and Colleges were also closed and the University of Jammu also postponed its examinations scheduled for today. The Government College for Women Parade also postponed its examination scheduled for today and which is now to be held on June 5. The Bandh call disrupted the normal life in the region and observed numerous political parties coming up and protesting.
The Panthers Party activists gathered in front of Press Club and staged a protest, raising slogans. Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman JKNPP condemned the decision of government to grant AIIMS to Kashmir. “Jammu has been neglected by the government once again,” he said.
A day long Jammu Bandh call was also given on April, 24 and had received a good response by the public where the educational institutions, business establishments, public transport was also remained closed, demanding AIIMS for Jammu.
