Jammu: Police arrests ‘Wanted’ SHO after residents block highway in protest
JAMMU: In a well-knit operations, Police on Monday arrested the wanted ‘SHO’, Sub Inspector Neeraj Kumar from Ghagwal area after day-long multiple raids.
Soon after the publication of story ‘Police hunting for absconding ‘SHO’ in a Local Daily, the police intensified its drive to nab the officer, as per the directions of IGP Jammu Dr SDS Jamwal.
To mount pressure for the arrest of Sub-Inspector Neeraj, who was absconding for over a month, the irate residents of Supwal village staged massive protests, raising anti-police slogans, and blocked the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, demanding arrest of absconding ‘SHO’ of Police Post Supwal, who was among three suspended personnel to allegedly facilitate under-custody accused from the lock-up to undertake murderous attack on his uncle. Sub Inspector Neeraj Kumar was at large but Ghagwal Police finally arrested him after conducting raids at various hideouts. He has already been booked under Section 307 CrPC.
Sub Inspector Neeraj Kumar was arrested after the intervention of Jammu IGP Dr SDS Jamwal. The family members of victim Inderjeet Choudhary, who was subjected to murderous attack by his nephew Daleep Kumar alias Deepa, appreciated the role of IGP Jammu for his direct supervision and instructions to nab the absconding police officer without any further delay.
“Most of the police officers were hand-in glove with the absconding incharge police post at Supwal, which is considered a lucrative posting,’ alleged Inderjit’s family members, who also staged a Dharna outside the police post.
Protesters alleged that local police is supporting the accused police officer. They lifted the Dharna after told about the arrest of erring officer.
As already reported, IC/PP Police Post Supwal, S-I Neeraj Kumar, Munshi and Constable were suspended by the IGP Jammu Zone S D Singh Jamwal.
The Munshi and the Constable were granted bail by the court soon after their arrest whereas anticipatory bail of Neeraj was rejected.
The trio had facilitated the accused Daleep Kumar alias Deepa in committing murderous attack on his uncle after being released from the lock-up and again returned back in connivance with the erring police men.
FIR 146/2017 under Sections 307/452/34 was registered against IC/PP Neeraj Kumar, Munshi Kulbir Singh and Constable Mohammad Haneef.
Family members of victim Inderjit Choudhary demanded dismissal of Sub Inspector Neeraj Kumar from services.
IGP Jammu Dr SDS Jamwal has given instructions to all his officers and subordinate ranks that a strict action will be taken against all those who will support or connive with anti-social elements. “Anyone having any grievances can contact me directly”, he told STATE TIMES, in his message to the people of Jammu zone.
