The discrimination with Jammu is never going to end whether it is a NC led government, or a PDP-BJP coalition which has equal partnership of the saffron party. In the latest instance it has been revealed that the prestigious Mubarak Mandi ropeway complex is not getting the nod from bureaucrats despite the Calcutta based company completing all formalities. The ropeway was conceived to connect Mubarak Mandi-and Mahamaya area across the river tawi, and the goal was to attract tourists from across the country who visit Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.

In 2013, it was even given Supreme Court nod, and forest land about 60 canals was handed over to Jammu and Kashmir state cable car corporation. The foundation stone was laid in Feb 2014, and the project was given to Damodar Ropeway and Infra Limited. Despite submission of drawings to the RITES, which is the consultant and payment of mobilization fund nothing has moved ahead as some highly influential bureaucrats are working around the clock to scuttle the project. The drawings have also been approved but the J&K cable car corporation, and tourism department has failed to expedite the project.

Even after an year, the neither drawings nor letter of credit which has to be issued to the Calcutta based company has been finalized. Sources are alleging that state tourism department which doesn’t want the project to see the light of the day under influence from Kashmir based leaders has delayed issue of formal certificate. Despite repeated attempts by the contractor the government has failed to deliver the goods.
