Jammu-Srinagar highway closed for second day, air services also affected

Srinagar: The white sheet of snow has engulfed all the hilly areas including the main town of Srinagar. This sudden change in the weather has also affected the normal life. The movement of vehicles on the roads has been affected due to snowfall in Srinagar city since Wednesday night. The cold wave has also made it difficult for people to move out of their homes. It is still snowing.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed for vehicular movement for the second day today. The Mughal road connecting the district Poonch to the valley and the Zojila road connecting Srinagar to Leh are also not allowing vehicles to descend due to snowfall and slippery road. According to the traffic department, more than 6000 thousand vehicles have been stopped on the national highway.

According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall and light rain is expected to continue in the valley even today. The weather in Jammu is clear, but the rains and the snowfall in the mountainous areas till late Wednesday and Thursday evening have also brought down the temperature here. People have taken out warm clothes to avoid winter. In view of this change in the weather, the administration has instructed the PDD, PHE and other departments to make comprehensive arrangements so that the general public does not face any problem. Talking about Srinagar, the power supply structure has collapsed due to snowfall there.

Electricity supply has come to a standstill in most areas and hilly areas of the city. For the convenience of the people, the administration has also set up complaint centers of departments providing PDD, PHE, food supply department and other essential services.

So far 7 people have lost their lives in Kashmir due to snowfall since Wednesday night. The dead included two army personnel, two potters, a lineman and civilian of the power department. Not only this, due to bad weather, 11 flights from Delhi to Srinagar were also canceled. Since this morning, it is also snowing in Batot in Ramban district and Patitap in Udhampur. Many air services are still affected due to inclement weather. In such a situation, various airlines have asked passengers from Srinagar to Srinagar and other states from Delhi to get flight information before leaving home so that they do not have to face problems due to delays.
