Jammu Srinagar highway opens for traffic

One way traffic was today restored at the Jammu Srinagar National highway, which had been closed due to the landslides triggered by heavy rain the last two days.

SSP Traffic National Highway, Sanjay Kotwal told that the stranded vehicles were cleared yesterday and the traffic has been restored after Border Roads Organisation removed the debris from the highway.

BRO has been working day and night to make the highway clear for vehicular traffic from both the sides, he added. In places like Banihal and Peera several landslides had blocked the way. There was also sliding of rocks and stones from mountain tops in other stretches posing risk to the vehicles on the highway.

Several passengers had a narrow escape after landslides triggered by heavy rains buried some vehicles on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway resulting in its blockade yesterday.
