Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has placed five policemen including an assistant sub inspector under suspension for dereliction of duty after an accused escorted by them from Rajouri to a Court at Samba escaped from their custody while in the court complex.
Sources said an accused namely Balbir Singh s/o Yog Raj resident of ward No.14 Kathua, a notorious criminal of Kathua area, was lodged in Rajouri jail at Dhangri.
On July 24 a five member police party from District Police Lines (DPL) Rajouri was engaged to escort the accused to be produced in a Court at Samba.
Reports said that the accused managed to escape from the court giving dodge to the escorting police party and was reportedly untraced.
Meanwhile, SSP Rajouri taking cognizance of negligence on part of the policemen have suspended all the cops and initiated an inquiry.
The suspended cops have been identified as Ram Nath Singh, ASI; head constable Mohd Shafiq; 2 SG constables namely Hukum Chand and Terseem Singh and constable Mohd Rafiq.
