Jammu and Kashmir News

A case of thuggery has recently been registered with the Sarwal Police wherein a property, that belonged to someone else, was sold by another person for Rs. 23 lakhs.
According to Sonika Jamwal, four years ago she shifted to Jammu with her family after selling their house in Pathankot. In Jammu, they lived in a rented house at Digiana and soon planned on buying a property here.
Meanwhile, Sonika’s little sister befriended a girl in the area and Sonika’s family approached the friend’s family regarding the buying of property.
The mother of her friend arranged their meeting with one Amit Kumar, a resident of Janipur. As per Sonika, Amit told her family that he owned a house in Vikas Nagar that he wanted to sell for a long time. The woman, friend’s mother, acted as the mediator and arranged Sonika’s family a deal worth of 45 Lakhs.
On 16th of October, 2013, a sale deed was prepared by Amit Kumar that was signed by the woman (mediator) as a witness and Sonika’s family gave him 23 Lakhs as the primary amount.
A few days later, Sonika’s family found out that the house belonged to a Bodh Raj and Amit Kumar was an impostor who had conned them. When they finally made contact with Amit, he promised to return the money but didn’t. The cheque given by him worth 5 Lakhs to the family also bounced.
Feeling deceived, the family approached the police. An FIR bearing number 96/2016 was filed under RPC sections 420, 467 and 468 and the police have started the investigation.
