Jat Stir | Passengers left stranded at empty Railway Station
Citizen Journalist Report by CJ Ashish
The Jat Stir has taken the toll of Jammu and Kashmir State along with rest of the country. Like other states of the country, the agitation has almost cut off the state from rest of the country. For the last two days, all Delhi-bound trains and even bus service has been suspended.
Thousands of out-bound passengers, including Vaishno Devi pilgrims and security forces personnel, continued to suffer due to cancellation of trains and bus service.
My friend who has come from Delhi to pay obeisance at Vaishno Devi shrine along with his family had booked a return ticket to New Delhi in the Rajdhani Express for Saturday evening. He needed to return immediately but both train and bus services have been cancelled and nobody knows until when. Finally, he had to book air ticket for his family of four and it cost him more than 55 thousand rupees.
Even the airline operators have increased fare by nearly four times, taking advantage of the situation. A single air ticket from Jammu to Delhi usually costs Rs 4,000 are now costing Rs 14,000.
Other passengers who cannot afford such hefty air tickets remain stranded on the Jammu Railway Station waiting for the rail traffic to start again.
