Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan on Monday condemned the horrific rape and murder of a 27-year old veterinarian near Hyderabad in Telangana last week. As the incident has enraged the entire country, Jaya Bachchan, while seconding the sentiment, said rapists should be brought out in public and lynched.
“People now want the government to give a proper and definite answer. These types of people [the accused in rape case] need to be brought in public and lynched,” Bachchan said in the Rajya Sabha.
A 27-year-old veterinary doctor was gang-raped, murdered and burnt near the Outer Ring Road on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Wednesday night. Her charred body was found on Thursday morning. The Cyberabad Police have arrested the four accused.
“The fault is of those who could not provide security to the woman and upbringing of the accused. They must be brought out in public and let the public decide their fate. It is happening in a lot of countries. What is done to people who commit such crimes? Public lynching. That will be the best justice,” said Bachchan.
The actor-politician added that if the authorities are unable to provide security to the women, the judgment must be left to the public. “Those who failed to provide security and those who committed the crime should be exposed in public and then let people decide.”
She further said that people are not afraid of the uniform anymore. “It is pertinent to find out why they are not afraid of the uniform. Why is that, in every other rape case, the victim is killed?”
