J&K: Ambulance ferrying tin, wooden logs instead of patients spotted in Jammu
Jammu, Oct 20: While government hospitals in Jammu often refuse ambulance to people to carry their dead kin home, there is brazen misuse of ambulances by the official machinery.
For example, an ambulance was seen Friday carrying candle boxes, tin sheets, wooden logs and other items from the parking of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) near Samadian road.
When the ambulance bearing registration number JK02AP-3866 arrived at the JDA parking, some people, probably government employees, loaded some boxes of candles, tin sheets, wooden logs in the vehicle.
As per sources, the Jammu district administration had given permission to install the stalls of crackers in the JDA parking near Samadian road. “Along with other stalls of crackers, a government department had installed a stall of candles, decorative items, some jute bags”, sources told a local daily.
They said that after Diwali all the stalls were removed including the one pitched by the government department, and to ferry the tin-sheets, wooden logs and unsold items, an ambulance was pressed into service.
“It is still unclear as whether the ambulance belongs to Health department or some other department, but the basic question is how the higher officials of department allowed the ambulance to shift items when same is meant for patients”, an insider asked, adding that without the permission of some higher officials, the lower staff, or driver of vehicle could not do it on his own.
