J&K Bank executive imprisoned for dowry harassment

Jammu, October 27: An executive of J&K Bank along with his brother and mother has been given a sentence of one year of imprisonment by Sub-Judge Special Mobile Magistrate Jammu on Monday for a dowry harassment case.

An FIR was registered by the victim bearing number 17/2011 at Police Station Women Cell against Amit Gupta, his brother Sanjeev Gupta and mother Chanchala Gupta all resident of Pacca Danga Jammu under section 498-A/506/406/34 of RPC. Amit was working as an Associate Executive of J&K Bank and has been allegedly harassing his wife since long. His wife reported the matter at the Women’s cell on July 17, 2011 against her husband and others. The victim also complained that the accused persons made many attempts to kill the victim.

The copy of complaint reads, “They made many attempts to kill the complainant in such a manner as if it was an accident, but they failed to do so because of the alertness of the victim, compelling and blackmailing the complainant to commit suicide.”

The victim woman also said that she was harassed so much for dowry that she left her husband’s house without any belongings in order to save her life which was in danger due to cruelty of accused persons.
