Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed who was not keeping well has passed away. Mufti Mohd Sayeed was admitted in AIIMS since December 24.
Mufti breathed his last in the morning today at 8 am after prolonged illness. His death will create a major void in the politics of Jammu and Kashmir which will be difficult to be filled.
Mufti Mohd Sayeed was 79. He was detected with Sepsis, low blood count and pneumonia apart from neck pain and fever. He was shifted to ICU of AIIMS after his blood count dropped suddenly. His poor health had sparked speculation that his daughter Mehbooba Mufti could become the next CM.
Mufti Mohd Sayeed had become chief minister in March, 2015 after BJP and PDP swept to power last year. His earlier tenure as CM was from November 2002 to 2005. Mufti Mohd Sayeed was also the home minister of India from December 1989 to November 1990. He was the founder of Peoples Democratic Party in 1999, and supported dialogue with Pakistan and separatists to bring peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
In 2002 , Mufti Mohd Sayeed’s PDP won 18 seats in Kashmir, and formed coalition government with Congress. He was sworn as Chief Minister for a period of 3 years.
