J&K : Er. Rasheed makes controversial remark says, Singing Pak Anthem is ‘No Crime’

The issue of arrest of Kashmiri cricket players playing Pakistani national anthem rocked the assembly today.

Bandipore legislator Usman Majeed said government must adopt a lenient approach and release the players who are booked.

Independent MLA engineer Rashid said it is ‘No Crime’ to sing Pakistani anthem and the government action smacks of hypocrisy, he said Mehbooba mufti built her party PDP by associating it with Pakistani symbols for gaining public support.

However the BJP came down heavily against those playing Pakistani anthem, party legislator Ravinder Raina said strong action must be taken against Pak supporters and there should no space for such elements.

Two cricket teams have been booked and several players were reportedly detained for standing for Pakistan’s national anthem being played before the start of a match in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district last week.

The action was taken after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
