J&K Govt. official set to spend Rs 7 cr on daughter’s ‘Grand’ engagement ceremony


JAMMU: An officer of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, whose gross income from known sources of income is around Rs 1.50 lakh a month towards the end of his service career, and who has been lately removed from a prize position over a controversy, is spending Rs 7 crore on the engagement ceremony of his daughter taking place at New Delhi’s upscale Radisson Blu hotel on November 19.

According to well informed sources, the high profile official has invited as many as 1100 guests from J&K, Delhi and other states. They include Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, ex-CMs Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Central and State Ministers, leaders from different political parties, top businessmen, bureaucrats and senior officers.

Orders have been placed for a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines including Kashmiri Wazwaan for a gathering of 1100 guests.

Even as most of the invitees would be staying with their friends and relatives, quite a number of them are being booked for a night’s stay at the same 5-star hotel in the national capital.


While as average cost of a person’s dinner at Radisson Blu is around Rs 5,000, tariff for ordinary rooms ranges between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000.
