J&K HC allows two NC MPs to meet Abdullahs

Srinagar:Jammu and Kashmir High Court today permitted two National Conference (NC) MPs to meet their detained party leaders, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, with a rider that the meeting shall be restricted to a courtesy call and to know the well-being of the persons.

The court, in its orders passed today, made it clear that the MPs, NC Parliament members Justice Hasnain Massodi (retired) and Akbar Lone, who had petitioned the court for a meeting with the detained leaders, shall not go to the press to share details about their deliberations.

These orders were issued by a single-bench of Justice Sanjeev Kumar, who has directed the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to take steps at the earliest to arrange the meeting of the two petitioner MPs with their detained party leaders and convey the dates of such meeting to them.

In the petitions, filed through their counsel, it has been prayed that the authorities be directed to allow and permit the petitioners to meet the incarcerated party leaders Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, who were under detention ever since the Centre abrogated J&K’s special status and downgraded the state into two union territories on August 5.
